We've put an offer on a house

and haven't heard back from the EA. The EA (of course) laughed at our offer but said he was obliged to pass it on. This was 2 days ago. I don't want to phone her again as of course then I'll sound too keen. What is the normal timeframe for this kind of thing?

maybe not call but write a polite email?

I don't think it unreasonable after 2 days to phone / pop in and enquire what the vendors said. You could say you were wondering about putting in an offer on a different house with another agent but obviously wouldn't do that if you had got this house, if you want to give them a reason.
IMO, the EA should have come back to you almost straight away, even if it was to say they'd not managed to contact the vendors yet but would continue to try.

Do you want the house or not? If you don't follow up your offer then EAs will think you are not really interested and will ignore you. I should think you can assume your offer has not been accepted and the vendors will be hoping for some more viewings this weekend. But there is nothing to stop you ringing up to find out.

Thanks. It's not the way I'd do business (ignoring a potential customer) but then lots of EAs do seem to be a different breed.

I'd put a note through the door of the house telling them that the agent laughed at you, and was slow to pass the offer on.

might encourage them to change agent!

Agree with Special Subject.

I am an estate agent and I agree with specialsubject. If you offered through me you would have been given a call back to say either the clients are considering it or I am waiting for them to call me back.

I am seriously horrified at some of the EA stories on here.

I'd just give them a ring. They don't sound very professional.
