What do we need to know about Victorian cottages?!

We've just bought one! Our first home was a new build and our next was a recently renovated town house so this is new territory. It needs updating so we're going to live in it for a while before agreeing on a plan of action.

So where do we find inspiration/ideas/hints/tips/warnings?

Has it still got original sash windows? If so don't rip them out! The property could lose value if you do.

We've just moved into the one we bought ten days ago.

No sash windows - some partly secondary glazed the rest are regular single glazed windows. 3 fireplaces and solar panels so I'm hoping not too expensive to keep warm!

Well with the sash windows our house is freezing...so we're getting secondary glazing put in !
Ay original floorboards? We need to sand/wax ours!

We definitely want to put in a nice woodburner, but the secondary glazing is going to cost about £1000 per sash so that won't be for a while!

There's a nice bit of parquet and the rest is carpeted so hopefully some nice floorboards underneath.
There is an amazing woodburner and a huge pantry.

They are bloody cold & damp...but maybe that's just mine.

I doo have lovely floorboards though. Lovely to have original fireplaces too! Sounds like you've got a fab project to get your teeth into.
