Does anyone live/lived near a pub- did it cause issues?

That's it really, I've seen a house that I love.
It's got a great location to shops, school and family but the only drawback is its about 100 yards ish from the back entrance to a pub.
Do I even view it or is it a definite no no?
I have children 12 ds and 9dd . Its a lovely estate .

Its last sale was 2001 so assume the present owners been there since then and they have kids but can I rely on them to say if they've had issues?

We live just off a road full of bars and restaurants and have a beer garden at the back of the house, next door but one. We love the house and bought it when we were child free and out all the time, we never noticed any noise then! We now have a 2 year old so our socializing is currently nonexistent :) The beer garden is only an issue in the summer (on dry days!) but the noise is generally just like a background buzz of happy chatting and is empty by 11 (licensing law or condition of the bar being allowed it). As for the main street of bars, we are disturbed by drunken shouting/arguing maybe once a month at most, it never lasts long. I should point out we have an old house with single glazed sash windows, I'm sure double glazing would mean we heard very little. Also, my toddler is never disturbed by any noise. From my experience I wouldn't worry too much unless it is a pub known for trouble, especially if you love the house. I'm sure you'll get lots of posts telling you to steer well clear though. I think our proximity to shops, cafes, lovely park etc far outweighs any disturbance, although if we were regularly disturbed then I'm not sure that would be the case.

I have just bought a new place and there is a pub very close I like it though! We have a pub at either end of the street we live on now and its fine

Have lived in a house with a pub 5 doors down , just bought a house with a pub next door but one .
Previous problem free - the current house I looked at and looked at the pub and lurked around and believe it will be no problem .
I agree with ABaB , it depends on the pub. A little bit of background noise from a garden is fine & not intrusive IMO.
What I would shy away from is anything with and extended licence or karaoke . Many years ago had a pub a block away and you could hear people's crap Elvis impressions quite clearly . It had that stopped by the council quite quickly.

So in short not necessarily a problem. You need to check out the pub . TBH if previous people have lived there for 12 years it couldn't have been that bad .

If you ask the sellers directly "are there any neighbour problems" they are not allowed to lie by law. So view the house but if you've not met the sellers ask for an evening/weekend viewing when they are likely to be in and ask them.

My ex-boyfriend many years ago was two doors down from a pub, it was small ish and we never heard anything much even at closing time. As long as it's not the local "oh, That Pub..." maybe google the name and see if there are online news reports of it getting busted?!?!

Thanks for the replies, I think they are trying to rebrand themselves as a family/food pub so may have a lurk in the evenings.
Aeth- googling is a good idea, can't believe I didn't think of that!

Just another thing to think about - deliveries. Even if it's a family pub with no late licence, there may be breweries, food suppliers etc doing deliveries early in the morning and they can be noisy from past experience!

The pub over the road from us have lots of karaoke and live music. I think they take the piss, TBH. In the summer it was every Sat and Sun night until midnight. Hope they rebrand as quiet family pub soon :)

So definitely lurk on some evenings!

Dh is very reluctant so think I'm going to have to leave it. As it maybe fine now but who's to say it'll stay that way and we want this to be our last move.
It's a shame asits a lovely house.

Yes I think you're right to be wary. We had a house near a pub and it became a real pain after the smoking ban and constant noise from smokers outside. Also we'd get drunk blokes going for a wee on our doorstep after closing time. I wouldn't live near a pub again sorry!

just sitting in my partners house at the moment. Were next door to a fairly lively village pub and its nice. I think theyre watching a football game atm as i keep hearing cheering intermittently.

I used to live next to a pub a few years back too. The noise never really bothered me.

We lived right next door to one - never again. Aside from the music coming through the walls (went in to complain, the music was so loud the barman could barely hear what I was saying!) we got fed up of people out in the road yakking and shouting for taxis at 1am. This was an urban street though.

We had all the problems above (noisy smokers outside, loud goodbyes from drunks, karaoke, late opening, etc...) but 3 years later the pub has closed and is being turned into flats, we are VERY happy, and very glad we took the risk (this is our final move- I love the house).

One bonus was we got it for a LOT cheaper than we would have paid without a pub next door.

Entirely depends. I am 5 doors down from a pub and you'd never know- I suppose it is a bit more of an old mans pub than a club though, so never hear any music or trouble. Compare that to my old place that wasn't all that close to a pub but surrounded by students- different thing entirely. The noise there was almost constant and completely unpredictable. I'd not live in studentsville anymore. But near a pub hasn't been a problem for us so far.

This house is cheaper then what you would expect probably because of the pub but I thought maybe I could live with it as house is so nice. It might have been good before kids.
But, I don't think it's worth risk. Looks like the search continues....

our house is about 100 yds from a pub - in a straight line - 6 doors along, plus side access road.
the front seating area & side garden - far side - don't impinge at all. we can see the pub car park from our bathroom window (rear extension, Victorian terrace)

they do have occasional events, including music, but not often

we've been here nearly 30 years, it's changed hands a couple of times since then but I can only think of a couple of really loud events in all that time.

there used to be a bus stop behind my house where late drinkers would wait after walking from the pub.

I accumulated a good supply of beer glasses that they put on top of my garden wall.

We bought a house opposite a village pub and of course it was much cheaper than you would expect. It wasn't really a problem until we came to sell - it was a big stumbling block then as viewers were put off.

We live opposite a village pub and it doesn't bother me or dp.

They have karaoke on Friday night's and live bands on Saturday and I can honestly say I don't hear anything.

In the year and a bit we've live here we've only had 1incident when the police were called for some drunk idiot who was trying to start a fight with a tree!

My dsc like the fact we can wonder across the road to the pub so they can play in the garden ( huge garden with play equipment)

Only downside I would say is the early morning deliveries but it didn't take long for me to learn to sleep through it and I can't remember the last time it woke me up.

Depends on the pub, we live by a hungry horse and only had issues with music once when they broke the council rules so all neighbours complained and they sent out apologies to us all, oh and it was rather dramatic when it burnt down a few weeks back - massive flames at 4am and lots of flashing lights.

To be honest, our biggest fear was that it would become flats but turns out they are rebuilding it so we are happy - never thought I would be wanting them to build a pub over flats!
