Under cabinet lighting

We are just about to order our beautiful new kitchen and thinking about the 'little extras' which might bump the cost up frighteningly - like lighting

Does anyone have any advice or experience of under cabinet lighting as I am clueless about the relative merits of baby strip lights, or pretty spotlights in triangular mounts (which you won't really see under the cupboard will you?) and LCDs, LEDs, halogen

TIA

I'm not convinced that the strip lights are that useful but they do add an interesting layer of light to a kitchen and can make it look very beautiful if, in a kitchen diner, only those are left on or are paired with a pendant light/candle in the dining area.

I think spots under cabinets could be too harsh and I'd also worry about them overheating the area, they are very strong.

I am having plinth lights instead and bought a set of ten from ebay for £30 which my electrician will fit. There are some really funky things around. Search for plinth lights on ebay and they will come up, the strip/rope lighting is cool.

We had the triangular ones installed in our last house. They were good but not desperately useful, more decoration than practical.

janmoo genuine question: aren't you worried that the plinth lights will show up every mark on your floor (assuming your floor is like mine and could generally do with a good mop Grin?)

OMG!!! I hadnt even thought of that! We are having a dark tile floor so hopefully it won't show up the dirt too much (unlike the white floor I inherited which shows everything). Maybe I will have to mop more often, doh.

We've just had LED tape installed under cabinets and at plinth height, it actually gives off a decent amount of light. We have a frosted glass door through to our lounge so went for colour changing ones which look amazing at night (they can be white too though)

We have LED tape plinth lighting, and the floor actually looks cleaner when it's on than when it's off. I was a bit nervous before it went in, but really glad I went for them in the end.

We also have under cabinet LED lights - they're the round style rather than triangular. We have very bright day-light bulbs in the down lighters which are great for brightening the kitchen up in the day. However, they are a bit too bright after dark, so we just have the under cabinet & plinth lights on then.
