Nice areas in London for the elderly??

Hi, my gran wants to move to London and rent a house.

She's lived on an estate for most of her life and has had troubles with teenagers that stresses her out. She now wants to move to a nicer area. Preferably somewhere not too expensive, somewhere quiet, so not too close to central, but not so far it's a challenge to get into London for her.

Any ideas?

I'm not exactly elderly but this is something I might in a year or two.

Putney - next to the river, nice walks, half-decent shops nearby including sainsburys, boots etc . Strong local community,lots of groups etc, good transport links. Lots of hospitals nearby as well.

It's not cheap though there are pockets of decent ex-council housing which aren't quie so xpensive for zone 2.

Sutton is full of elderly. Half hour to Victoria. You wouldn't think so as it's overrun by young people on weekends/evenings but weekday the morrisons caf is buzzing with retirees and mobility scooters. Cheam down the road is a bit nicer but less flats and more houses there.

I second Putney and East Sheen.

I'll have a look see at the places mentioned. She's not interested in flats though, but thanks.

If she is looking for a house to rent, in London, within easy access to central London, in a nice and quiet area, she is, I fear (like most Londoners with her ), looking for the holy grail.
2 bed houses are nearly twice the price of flats in these areas, so would perhaps not be feasible for her.

But, you need to define "not too expensive" and let us know a budget if you want realistic suggestions. For all I know £2500 pcm is "not too expensive" for her!

Hampton? We looked with DH's parents a few years ago and if you don't need to commute it's great. Relatively affordable, lots of smaller houses, regular trains, plenty of buses to Kingston/Teddington/Twickenham, Waitrose and loads of parkland on your doorstep.
