Brilliant place to live in Greater Manchester? Urgent advice needed

We have just sold our house. We already live in the area and know it quite well. We need to be commutable by car for Stockport and for Manchester University (Oxford Road). I know it can be a long trek in from South Manchester areas.
Where do you recommend for a lovely community, houses and importantly nurturing primary schools?
Thanks in anticipation.

Brooklands part of Sale or TImperley on that budget, no question.

I agree with your husband about Warrington (it's my home town, I'm allowed to!) however this side of Warrington doesn't feel much like Warrington at all. I never go into Warrington except to use sainsburys.

It is certainly worth considering. I'm quite fussy and wouldn't live in 'warrington' but don't mind being over here. We looked at Sale and Timperley - there was some great housing stock but we found ourselves driving around feeling a little hemmed in and wondering where all the countryside had gone.

It would be a shame to discount Appleton because it's technically in Warrington. That's like discounting Bramhall because its more or less Stockport.

Have you looked at Poynton? It's lovely.

Agree with whoever said not to go to High Legh - there is literally nothing there and HS2 is going to devastate house prices.

I live in the Heatons which you probably know already. It's lovely, there is plenty of green space and a nice community feel. Primary schools are excellent and there is a local outstanding Ofsted rated high school. My DS goes to one of the Trafford grammars as do quite a few round here. I think. Saw mention of your budget you would no problems getting a big house here. Excellent transport links and we are getting the tram to East DIdsbury as well soon!
