Would it be okay for us to pass the invoice to the insurance company to settle directly with the builder or do we pay up first then have the insurance reimburse us? its around £2k, we ideally prefer the latter but wanted to check... Thanks

If the insurers have agreed for the work to go ahead and your builder is aware that insurers are dealing with it, then I would send the invoice to them and ask them to pay either your builder or yourselves. There may be a deduction of a policy excess.

Just interested - and no need to answer if it's sensitive, but what is the claim for?

We have buildings insurance which has been extended during our building works. When we bought the house we have a full structural survey and specialist damp and timber, but when the work started we discovered all the ground floor joists were rotten and would need replacing. We decided to have solid floor instead as it would give better U ratings, but do think this is the kind of unforseen thing that we could claim for?
