How can I tell if a dimmer light switch is on or off?

Is it obvious? I need to change a bulb in the DCs room but I have no idea if the switch is actually on or off before I do anything. I can't guarantee that the switch is even left in the position due to fiddly fingers who can reach it

Thanks, I will try in the morning. It's a push on/off with twisting round to dim the light.

It clicks as it turns both directions. Based on the switch in our room, I have turned it right down so as low as it can be.

Why don't you turn the electricity off at the fuse box? That would be safer.

Glittertwins · 21/01/2013 14:55

I would if I knew which one controlled the upstairs lighting and I don't have anyone that shout yes or no to the lights on or off!! Anyway I got it sorted without a problem by turning it right down and using a cloth to hold the bulb just in case. The fuse box will be labelled soon!
