recessed spotlights - how much approx?

i have hideous striop lighting in my new house and would like to put in recessed spots but no idea on how much apprx this would be ? if anyone has had it done recently and would be prepared to share ball park figure i would be very grateful-- average size room small L shape .thanks muchly

Not that recently (7 years!) ... I made a fake ceiling out of plasterboard, drilled holes at random intervals and set in flush halogen downlights from Wickes. Took 2 evenings with two of us - the only hard part was threading through from the ceiling space; the LED transformers need airspace due to risk of overheating, so couldn't just be shoved behind the fake board.

I had a quote for this recently. Think it was going to be about £350 to supply and fit spotlights. I decided not to bother in the end tbh.
