Hi folks, I'm wondering if it's possible to switch my kitchen to where my living room is, and to also put my laundry room in a room that's next to my now living room.?Any kinda help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sure it would be possible...
My guess would be that you woudl need building regs, as you are changing use of the rooms. It will be expensive to re-route plumbing.
When we moved into our current house I wanted to mirror image our kitchen diner, so that the kithcen would be in the dining end and vv, but came back on that idea when the joiner we had in to quote for this started rolling his eyes.
Sorry that I cannot be of much help, but there are some really practical posters on this topic, and perhaps now that you are bumped into the active topics again one of them might come around?

Where is your kitchen in relation to your living room? How far is living room from drains? Do you have suspended floors with good void underneath in order to run new pipes (rather than solid floors for example)? Anything's possible but the cost and effort is very variable.

My living room is approximately 25 feet from the kitchen. The basement is unfinished and all pipes are exposed.

I think my husband would probably hire a plumber to do all the plumbing, or at least get his Opinion.I just wanted to know if this could be possible, and if it's too costly, we will probably look into selling, and buying another house. Thank you so much for your Opinions,I appreciate them.

That's quite a gap. If the pipework runs through the basement it probably won't be too difficult to bring in water and gas (if using) but I would worry about drainage.

I actually found the measurements that my husband have written down And apparently The drain pipe two where we went to relocate the kitchen Is exactly 15 feet away from each other.

We do have gas pipes actually running right under the "now liviing room ". So you think that the drainage would be a problem?

I'm not saying it would be a problem, but it is the thing that would worry me most about swapping rooms around. It's quite easy to get water into a room but, ime, it's getting it (safely) out again that becomes difficult.

One more thing would you consider 15 feet away from the main drain pipe is too big of a gap?

It depends on how great a fall you can create for the water to drain away from your kitchen to the main drain. There are minimum (and maximum) amounts of fall (the slope of the pipe as it carries the water away) that you have to allow for.

Hey, I want to really thank you, you've been a great help.I think we're gonna eventually get a plumber here first before we really do anything.I just wanted to know if it's possible. I Heard that the plumbing can be costly, and that you should get all your plumbing and any gas pipes done first, and all at the same time. So, thanks alot for your help. Take care, t.horgan
