Brick tiles - nice or baffled?

I'm meaning the ones like red or neutral exterior bricks.. Thinking about how to do kitchen when we do our extension and thinking of making a feature of a 1.5m wide wall above sink.. It's a 1970's house.. Will it look nice or tacky? Thanks in advance for any opinions

I like exposed brickwork - I'm guessing these are those tiles that mimic it? I think it depends what the rest of the kitchen is going to look like - my friend wanted (genuine) exposed brick in a very sleek, high finish kitchen which I didn't think would work. It depends as well if the "bricks" look as if they belong in the house: if they are red brick finish but your house is made of yellowy ones, that would look odd to me.

Unless they are actual bricks, I would steer clear personally.

My friend had brick "tiles" (I think they were called slips by the builders) over the outside of her extension rather than use real bricks for reasons I can't quite recall. I have to say, they are bloody convincing and come in a variety of finishes both in terms of colour and how weathered they are. If you're talking about using very smooth faced ceramic tiles, then I'm not so sure.

There was a house recently on Grand Designs (built with a huge disco basement in a very small urban plot bordering a railway line) which had to blend with the adjacent mews houses. They used acrylic (?) brick effect tiles on the exterior and they even got the Kevin MCloud seal of approval.

But I'm not sure I'd do it in a 70s house TBH.

In a 70s house, I think baffled I think I'd stick to tiles or a big made-to-size stainless steel or coloured glass splashback.

Exteriors would be a bit different though IMO because lots of modern exterior coverings are "fake" in the sense of non-structural - whether they're brick slips or render or whatever.

But I do love exposed brickwork.. May have to change house
