Moving to Milton keyenes with Twins who will be starting Primary school from Sept.

Hi All,

DH has been offered a new job in Luton, and we are planning to move to Milton keyenes soon.We are looking for a rented house. Would you all please suggest some nice area with good primary school & low rental .
We would prefer an area near station as DH would be commuting to Luton.

January 15th is the last date for School submission form and we will be moving after that, I am worried whether they will be able to secure a place in school or not.

I am in Northampton but know MK well as I work there, and also have lots of friends who are applying to primary for the first time this year. The MK council website is very good, and lists all the schools and also shows which were over subscribed last year.
There are so many areas, it is difficult to list all the nice ones. Loughton is the nearest to the station, and one of the nicest areas, being one of the old villages. All of the Shenleys are nice, and the newest estates on the west side such as Oxley Park and Medbourne are up and coming areas. There is lots of building going on in the east, so plenty of rentals, but it is less convenient for the station, although very good for the M1. The older villages of Milton Keynes Village, Woolstone and Woughton on the Green are on the east side but closer to town, and have some character unlike the newer estates. They are also pricey though. If you let me know possible areas you are looking, I can let you know some thoughts or ask my mates if that helps.

Thank you for the reply, actually we are not sure about the area as such, DH has got a Job in Luton but we do not want to stay there, So we are thinking to move to MK, at present we are at Swindon, I will definitely look at their website. Thanks.

What about Good primary school in MK.

My niece lives in Loughton and her 7 year-old goes to school nearby.
Have e-mailed my DB who is retired to ask if he knows the name and address. SIL should know.

MK is not the best place for commuting in to Luton unless you have family or other connections as your reason for wanting to be there?
It is on the wrong trainline for Luton and to drive would either be down the A5 through Dunstable or the M1. If there is a snarl up on the M1 then it would take ages and whnever that happens, everyone then uses the A5 so that then becomes completely chokker.
I would second Leighton Buzzard as an option - there are some excellent lower schools in town - check out Greenleas, Southcott, Dovery Down and Pulford -all OfSTED outstanding. Or Heathwood and Linslade which are rated good. The other schools are also fine. Rental is also not bad and it is less than 10 miles from Luton.
In the area, other places with good schools are Toddington, Flitwick and Ampthill, Upper and Lower Sundon as well as Barton Le Clay.

Ooh yes forgot not on the right train line!
I love Ampthill. Have a friend who lives there.

Thanks theindecisive No we do not have any connection with MK other than me planning to start work soon and I thought that MK will have greater opportunities. How is Leighton Buzzard connected to London.

you are right in your thoughts that MK would be good for work for you. LB is about 8 mins by train from MK and 35 from London. Whereabouts in Luton will DP be working?

Re schools- tricky one. There has traditionally been a lot of pressure on the good lower schools because of large development. This hopefully has been relieved as new school due to open in september, but this remains to be seen. prior to this year, you would not have got a place via an "in year " application but it might be fine!

Thanks dramaqueen & greenfolder. My Dh office will be closed to the Luton parkway train station. I know Re school will be tricky one but we are looking to move by March 1st week so lets see if we can manage a place for them.
