Has anyone used MyBuilder.com and would you recommend it?

Or any other suggestions for finding a reputable plumber in the absence of local recommendations?

Thanks Smile

We used it to find the plumber who did our bathroom, he did a good job it looks nice, works fine, was polite in front of the DC, tidied up after himself etc. I think there is a similar site called ratedpeople which is similar, or you could try ringing the council and see if they have an approved tradespeople list. Our local chip shop has lots of business cards on a noticeboard, try ringing a few and asking to talk to previous customers.
Tell us which area of the country you're in and see if any MNers will share their plumber?
I'm E Mids if thats any good to you Grin

The good thing about those online search schemes is that i can enter lots of recommendations for myself under false names, and if anyone says anything horrid I can ask the site to remove it. I'm the one paying the website so they do what I tell them. They never come and look at the work.

Ask local friends or neighbours for recommendations, and look at the worrk.

An alternative method is to cruise round your neighbourhood looking for trade vans. Write down the name and nunmber or ask for a card, and call round to the house later and see if the householder is willing to tell you what they thought.
