Advice re damage to kitchen lino caused by repairman moving dishwasher

Can any-one tell me what to do? Called a repair man to look at our dishwasher , which he pulled out and in the process of putting it back in to position he badly ripped our vinyl floor (only 2 years old) which will now need to be replaced. We do not want to claim for this on our house insurance as it wasn't our fault What would anyone suggest - what are our 'rights' in this situation? (Incidentally dishwasher could not be repaired and call out cost us £50 !!! Not a good day!

Off the top of my head, the repair man should have his own insurance I'd have thought so that if he causes any damage, he is covered. Was it his fault, or was it caused by the actual dishwasher (eg sharp bit sticking out where it shouldnn't have been)? I think you're probably going to have to claim on your insurance policy.

Hi Mandy21

Many thanks for your reply. Luckily the repairman called us and said he was covered under his insurance and to submit a quote for a replacement to him. So we are off to the shops this weekend for some fun lino buying!
