What's wrong with my sick washing machine? Is it the end?

Arrggghhh my washing machine is spewing water from underneath but we can't see why or where. I've just called the repair guy but he can't come out until Thurs. Should we just buy a new one?

No idea but a bit more info would assist Grin

Is it spewing (love the phrase) when filling up? In which case is there a problem with the bit where the water comes in?

Is it spewing all the time...has the hose connectory thing (attached to the water pipes) come loose?

Is it spewing on spinning/emptying - therefore is your waste pipe bent/blocked and is causing an overflow?

Does it have a filter you need to de-clog - does this need doing as cloggy stuff causing a backup leak.

BTW I am not a plumber/washing machine expert at all - tis these are just what I would look at upon first discovering a spew. Any of the above I would be able to have a stab at rectifying myself. If something else can you google it. More info on here may get someone with experience able to advise you. So when/where from/what quantities/hot/cold/clean/dirty water?

Thanks, ok so it seems to be leaking when the cold water is filling for a rinse.

And the water is cold and clean.

Have you checked the hoses are connected properly at the wall? And that there is no dodgy connection at the washing machine end of the inlet pipe. Is the water coming from the bottom of the machine? Is it coming at "mains" pressure - ie how fast your taps run - or is it more of a dribble?

FishfingersAreOK · 29/12/2012 16:51

and where is it coming from - the bottom? the door?

FishfingersAreOK · 29/12/2012 16:54

If you are not sure then put some newspaper underneath to see where it is coming from.

Other things to check - is the soap dispenser drawer clogged up?

Am really hoping someone with more know-how will be along soon for you!

Oh and if you tell us what make/model/age it is that may spark someone who has had a similar experience!

It's definitely coming from underneath, door, drawer and back are completely dry. It's a Hotpoint Aquarius+ WT740

And it seems to be coming out as fast as it's going in so normal water pressure.

We had a similar problem, turned out the rubber washer had rotted so the hose connection wasn't tight enough. We just got a new hose & washer, dh replaced it himself.

Hope your problem is something as simple!

VivaLeBeaver · 29/12/2012 18:30

We had the same with the dishwasher. Dh u screwed the side panel so he could see where the connecting hose was supposed to join the inlet pipe of the machine. Hose had come lose and he shoved it back on.

If it is coming out when it tries to fill for cold rinse, but not when it first fills through the powder section of the drawer, it is probably a hose or valve.

If your machine is a generally reliable brand, no need to buy a new one.

Thanks for all your advice. We'll hang on until Thurs. Luckily I have family just around the corner so I can use their machine until then.
