We have an open plan L-shaped living room. The long side of the L is on a north/south axis, with sitting area towards the north and dining area towards the south. The short bit of the L points west, and contains the kitchen.
At the moment all walls, woodwork, kitchen cupboards are white, with oak floors. Every alcove has shelves, housing books, TV, CDs, kids toys, and some kitchen overspill (so quite busy, rarely perfectly tidy). The whole damn house is white, we are SO bored of white, but can't decide what to change it for. This room feels like such a big space, it's quite daunting. We can't change the kitchen cupboards or floor, but what colours could we use on the walls, woodwork, and shelves?
What I've read suggests that you need different colours for north or south facing rooms. There is a natural line where the wall was removed to open the room up, so we could use different colours but they'd need to co-ordinate.
