Boiler advice - possibly stupid question

I have a combi boiler, it's only 2 years old but has been nothing but trouble (i think the plumber is a bit of a chancer). The display has gone so I can't set the timer or alter the temp but I can have it either off or on (so I have heat and hot water).

So the question is, do I need to get it fixed? It's a bit of a pain, but essentially its working, I'm just worried that the display might be flashing some horrendous 'don't use this boiler' message and I can't see it. I'm moving just after Christmas and really don't want to spend any money on the house before I move. (Long story involving it being mums house, being used as an asset to pay for her care blah blah blah).

Obviously if its dangerous I'll have to pay someone to look at it, but its really really annoying if I have to (as it cost me 1k to have it put in in the first place)

Could you not contact the boiler company? If it's only two years old then it should still be under manufacturers warranty I would have thought.

I'm no expert - Hopefully PigletJohn will be along in a minute with some proper advice.

But - You should have your boiler serviced every year. So I would get someone out to check it.

If you can't see the display it could well have a fault warning on it, so really you should get it seen to.

Especially if you think the plumber was a chancer . Did you check he was corgi/gas safe registered?

If not really do get someone out.

Also it will probably be cost effective to get it sorted now - if they buyers surveyor picks up on a faulty boiler, I imagine even if it is a cheap job they will be knocking money off the offer they have made on the house.

I have had it serviced every year (well once, it is due for this years, but wasnt going to bother as I'm moving out).

With regards to knocking money off the house, to be blunt I don't really care. This is my family home that mum and dad bought when they got married. I moved back in 8 years ago to care for mum (who has mobility problems) and then 3 years ago she was diagnosed with dementia. She is now in a care home, which is running up a bill of just over £24k a year. The council have deferred payment for her care until her death or until I move out. So I am moving out. I was tempted to take the boiler with me (as I paid for it) but that would be childish, I don't really want to have to pay a lot of money out on it though when it has literally only got to last me 4 weeks. (Though I will if I have to, but with a proper mardy face whilst I do).

I will give the boiler company a ring, but I suspect the warranty was only for 1 year. Thanks for your advice :)

of course you need to have it fixed. £1k is actually not much to supply and fit a boiler. If the installer was not qualified and/or did not install it correctly the manufacturer's warranty is probably void.

I have mentioned this before.
I phoned the trading Standards when I got no hot water from my combi after 3 years. They looked at their list for boilers and told me it was 6 years. if anything went wrong with it before then, the person who sold it to you - the plumber, unless you bought the boiler from somewhere yourself, is responsible for repairing it FREE, not the manufacturer. If he refuses to do it for free then you must sue him through the small claims court.

My hot water just happened to be working the next day, so was nothing wrong and not had any problem since. But that is what TS told me
