The decluttering, cleaning, vacating, pandering, nailbiting antics of the stressed out house sellers

Starting a new thread, since our old one was almost full!

Anyone suffering the stresses of trying to sell a house is welcome to join us; anyone here to tell us our houses are crap and/or overpriced is not. Wink

Holding your hand very hard Spirael. I've been so lucky this time to have solicitors that didn't seem to drag their feet over every last thing, but I've been there before with a previous house purchase that fell through. Fingers, toes & everything that can be crossed, crossed.

Spirael · 17/12/2012 15:41

Thanks marshmallow. :) In fact, thanks everyone! I think I'd be even more stressed out than I am already if it wasn't for you lovely lot on here that I can vent to and receive words of encouragement from.

Well, we still know virtually nothing. Our new, youthful solicitor has actually surprised both DH and I by returning our calls - a first in this whole sorry saga! Unfortunately his hands are tied a bit as the problem is right at the bottom of the chain and he doesn't have a direct connection to that solicitor.

Far as anyone can establish, the FTB are still having problems getting their bank to release the mortgage funds. Murmurs are that everything is now in place, it's just taking time to process. But there's no confirmation to be had anywhere.

Regardless, looks like we're definitely not exchanging today [sigh] which means tomorrow we'll be going for simultaneous exchange and completion again. Because that worked so well last time.

I really don't know what to do. DPiL and my DF are driving hundreds of miles to help us move and they're planning on setting off way before the any offices open to make sure they arrive in time. We were really hoping to have some security by now through the exchange, but it still hasn't happened!

Do I let everyone set off on their long journeys and risk the same thing happening tomorrow as it did last week? Confused I don't think I can take Friday happening all over again! Sad

Good luck - I don't know what to suggest re the long distance travel. If you tell them not to come maybe it'll happen smoothly? Sods law would dictate that that approach might work?

Lots of lucky vibes from us. Fingers, toes, eyes and legs crossed for you my dear!

You've got me nervous about our move now. We're moving on the 11th January but our solicitor is closed for Christmas from this Friday until the 9th January - maybe I ought to check and double check everything now.

Pootles2010 · 18/12/2012 09:57

All the best for today Spirael - really really hope this all works out for you.

CuddyMum · 18/12/2012 10:59

Everything crossed for you Spirael!

Supposedly everything is in place but the FTB at the bottom of the chain aren't answering calls, texts or emails so nothing can start moving and no-one knows what, if anything, is happening. :(

And I shall send a rocket for the FTB's backside...

chillikat · 18/12/2012 15:34

Fingers crossed Spirael. And a Wine later.

marshmallowpies · 18/12/2012 16:55

That FTB must be getting all the bad karma in the world...hope it gets sorted for you soon!

We are in the new house, had tea, waiting for the removal men to finish up. I want to sleep....

Spirael · 18/12/2012 20:02

So, good news and bad news here. The bad news is that, yet again, we haven't moved. :( The good news is that we finally exchanged this afternoon. :) Completion is now scheduled for Thursday. Third time lucky?

The FTB deserve everything anyone can throw at them. I won't go into all the details, but after we missed moving on their preferred date last Friday (due to their problem!) they had decided to deliberately try to stall the sale until the end of January for their own utterly selfish reasons. Shock

It wasn't until I got stroppy and insisted we exchange before the end of the day or my house was going back on the market, then my bank got involved and backed me up by saying if we didn't exchange by the end of the day they would be taking back the mortgage funds they'd already released - destroying the chain, that the EAs and Solicitors magically managed to talk to one another and arrange the exchange.

So, now I get to run around for the third time to try and get everything arranged so we can actually move. Even closer to Christmas than before, so I just won't have chance to get some things sorted. So we'll be without internet and TV, no online food delivery, we may or may not have any carpets, etc.

But hey... At least on Thursday we should be finally in the shiny dream house. Probably. Just got to hope everything works, because we've got no chance of getting fixed anything that doesn't for a week or more!

Bought Wine this afternoon. :) Though I did have to dig out the bottle opener...

CuddyMum · 18/12/2012 20:27

Yay! I'm sure all will go well on Thursday for you! Have a big drink - you deserve it. Hope you are feeling better too.

CuddyMum · 18/12/2012 20:33

Oh and well done Marshmallow - enjoy your new home.

marshmallowpies · 18/12/2012 21:46

Spirael...on the bright side if your new house is a new build, you can move in to a blank canvas which needs no work apart from adding your touches. On the other hand I'm contemplating acres of woodchip, mustard yellow carpets and a boiler that pre-dates the Ark! So much to do, and right now, no time to do it in...

Yes good luck for today Spirael I keep checking for updates and hoping you are in your lovely new house! We are not going on the market till next year but our house is pretty much guaranteed to be bought by a ftb and I'm dreading it.

Our house is now sold, just waiting for the funds to transfer so we can get the keys to the new house! [chews nails]

Currently I'm technically homeless. Confused
