You know the nice understated one like 30/15 min meals one. I really like it and cannot cope with an uber fitted shiny new kitchen..it is just not me. Do any of you fair ladies know where I could find something like the jamie kitchen?

M&S do stand alone units which could form part of it. link to m&s website

I think 3 thick oak shelves to display all your decanted into kilner jar pulses and stuff would be good, then a wooden topped counter, with cream/grey or green painted pine units underneath. Half Dressers would also work well on your walls, a painted on chalk board direct to the wall. Car boot for enamel and earthen ware bits.

Slate top counters would be nice too.

I think you should contact a local cabinet maker for cabinets. The rest you could pick up from hardware/kitchen suppliers and then get some one to fit it for you?

Yes, I love this kitchen. I reckon a joiner could knock one up for you. The pull-out drawers are like the Ikea ones for the Pax wardrobe - you could easily incorporate those. I've thought about this quite a lot

I did something like this by collecting all the parts I liked from different suppliers, including some items not originally designed for kitchens, and getting a (patient) carpenter to fit it for me to my design. Painted everything myself so it sort of looked like it went together. That was quite a lot of hassle DIY, you would probably need to go to an independent supplier who has a choice of fitted/unfitted units to get it in one hit.

I'm not convinced that's a real kitchen though, it looks quite a lot like a set to me.

I love the unit with the open/deep drawers. Where could you source these?

Found this blogpost which lots of good pics and footage of the Jamie kitchen and I notice he's got some stainless steel in there too.

So I would like to nominate this as one of my favourite Ikea products ever. I had one in my last kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher underneath (should have made a little curtain for the front but never got round to it) and it was excellent, used it as my main worksurface. And cheap as chips.

It only really works if there are units or walls both sides though, otherwise it's just got a big open side.

MulledWineOnTheBusLady · 21/11/2012 15:48

Oh sorry, not footage at all, just stills.

you can get solid wood drawer boxes e.g here and just leave the fronts off. Similar ones are sold for going inside wardrobes as well. Or your carpenter can make some and put them on standard runners.

I covert it too. I thought it was just like the M&S one. You can buy fake, thin bricks to give the exposed brickwork look. Not wallpaper. More like tiles. Not sure where from though.

noddyholder · 21/11/2012 17:12

Slim brick are very good I have had a few Jamie kitchens

UterusUterusGhouli · 21/11/2012 17:37

Is that what they're called, Noddy?

Do you get them from a regular tile place?

Inthepotty · 21/11/2012 21:37

I've got a similar kitchen, DH is a joiner, BIL is a carpenter so built it together. It looks lovely but can look unfinished without 'bits' like big chunky mugs, cookbooks on shelves and open plate racks, etc. Bugger to clean tho!!

Inthepotty · 21/11/2012 21:39

I've got that ikea stainless steel! Perfect work top, have 2 wooden pull out mini islands underneath for cooking things. Wooden hooks from ceiling for pans.
