Is it worth getting a decorator in?

Progress on the DIY front is very slow here due to long work hours/lack of interest.

I long for a beautiful house! Virtually the whole of our three bed semi needs doing. Would it be worth getting a decorator in? We could just about afford it.

What does everyone else think?

We have just bought a house. Completed on it about a month ago. We were originally considering doing th decorating ourselves, but with a combination of living an hour away currently, 2 kids and a husband working full time we quickly realised it was not going to happen.

So we have just paid 2.3k for the whole house to be painted and decorated and tbh I am so glad that we did.

I used to do all of my decorating until I had one as part of building work and have never looked back.
I have a good one and he is: faster than me; less messy than me; has the right tools, dust sheets etc that I would have to buy on top of paint/paper; can make recommendations on paint type, colour etc; gives a more professional finish and he clears up at the end and takes the brushes away (I hate cleaning brushes).
What is not to like!

It depends on the room - a spare room which will not be such a pain to be out of action for a few weeks whilst you dip in and out is not such a god-send.

Main living room or bedroom - if you cannot do the "blitz it every spare hour available" then it can be a major PITA.

If you can afford it - I would say Yes. Done to a higher standard, quicker and less hassle/stress inducing! Also you will save money on roller trays etc etc.

We gave up doing it ourselves yrs ago , it's so much quicker and painless to get a pro in . We're shit at doing it ourselves though.

Once upon a time, when I had the time, the enthusiasm and not much money, I did it all myself and was very proud of the result. I would have said then that paying someone to do it was a waste of money.

Nowadays I have no time, little enthusiasm and plenty of money. I get people in for everything.

It all depends on where you are at in life, I think.

What billwoody & rhubarbgarden said!!

Grin Rhubarb I definately agree with your post.

Hee hee! I think you lot are right.

We're halfway through decorating the spare bedroom. It has taken an age already. I can't imagine what that would be like if it were the lounge! Will get that done then call in the cavalry.

I like the idea of decorating but not actually doing it!

We get people in for everything (dh is not good at diy, despite being very keen).

Definitely for painting and decorating.
