Annie Sloan - has anyone improvised the wax?

I'm going to Annie Sloane our nasty pine mantelpiece

I'm loath to spend £8 on a big tin of wax when I know I'll use a fraction of it

I have clear beeswax polish, I wonder if it'll do the job?

Not on Annie Sloan, but I have on regular emulsion (pre AS!). Clear wax will seal it, but won't add a any ageing effects. If you want that with darker shades in the grooves etc you need a dark wax eg old oak.

I don't want it shabby or distressed. I want it to blend in with the skirting boards which are plain eggshell. I'm only using AS as I can't be arsed with sanding and priming
