Planning permission issue??

We've seen a house that has a barn in the grounds. It is a timber barn which the vendors built around 4 years ago to replace some dilapidated Nissen huts. I have seen the planning application/approval online and it all seems fine, except that the planning application states the barn will be used for storage of machinery and animal feed, whereas they have actually also erected an internal stable within the barn for their pony. The design and access statement does mention "pony housing" as a use for the barn, but the application form doesn't! We would want to keep the stable within the barn and add a second one too for our 2 horses. However, we're not sure if this is actually allowed. Is the mention on the Design and Access statement enough? Should they have applied for change of use for the barn too and/or put animal housing on the application form? We don't want to fall foul of the planners as we'd have nowhere to stable our horses if they didn't allow it. The property is a registered smallholding (I don't know if that makes a difference). Thanks in advance!
