Has anyone had any experience with this?
Does it work? I wanted to paint over a wall in the living area?

Yes, I painted a section of wall in my kitchen, then put a frame around it with skirting for a large chalkboard. It's also magnetic , I got mine in Homebase. The paint it very runny so be careful, it took 2 coats to cover the wall.

We've got a big wall of it in my husband's office (plus a little patch in the kitchen as a notice board!). It's worked very well. my only warnings are that it is indeed quite runny so it needs to be applied with care as it can be a bit drippy and flicky, plus you need to check the initial care instructions - I think my paint suggested something like wiping off the chalk with a wet cloth for the first few uses, to prevent "shadowing" where the old text is always visible. Now that we've done that we can wipe off with a dry duster.
