Interior design me - Tell me what colour to paint my room

We have 2 main reception rooms. One is lovely and no children are allowed in .

We also have one at the back next to the kitchen (double doors not open plan).

It's a big room (6m x 6m), north facing with triple doors onto the garden.

The only things in it at the moment are white expedit shelving and a dark grey IKEA tv bench.

The walls are Magnolia and the carpet is beige and I hate it.

What colour would you paint it?

I'm quite Farrow & Bally really but don't live in the Victorian house of my dreams so don't want to look a fool.

Big fan of modernist colours too (which we have in kid free room).

Want something family friendly without looking like a playroom.

Paint me!

Also, although the room is big - there isn't an awful lot of wallspace.

One wall has door into hallway, another has door onto study.

3rd has double doors onto kitchen and 4the triple doors onto garden.

It means there's not an awful lot of room for pictures, furniture etc.

Do you think wallpaper would work or is wallpaper a bit naff again now.

I get the newsletter from houzz every week and there are tons of ideas there.

Alternatively if you like Farrow & Ball why not take some photos of your room(s) and go into one of their shops? I did this in a local independant paint shop and spent an hour choosing paint with the owner - she got it right first time and took into account which way the room is facing, the flooring etc. and gave me some tips on what colour to paint the doors and windows too.

What do you intend to do in there? Do you want neutral or colour? I think f and ball fine in a non period house. I prefer kevin mccloud paints though or craig and rose.North facing can be dull which you can either go with or try and brighten by going more yellow toned than blue

I would actually like a bit of colour.

It's our main family room so needs to be cheerful rather than stylish.

The other room is lovely with grown up things and no TV.

The room is big, the main shelving etc is white and there are so many doors and windows I think it would take it.

I would love to paint it bright orange but think DH would move put .

If I painted it this colour - would I be rocking backwards and forwards within a week?

I think it would go nicely with the white and grey furniture but a little frightened.

considering that I was going to suggest Charlotte's Locks, then no. CL on one wall though!
What is your kitchen like,as you suggest that they are interconnected?

Ooh ooh, Charlotte's Lock is exactly the colour I wanted.

Maybe on the wall with the expedit furniture on it, to break it up a little, rather than the wall with the TV on, so we're not forced to look at it all day

The kitchen is through some double doors and is currently magnolia (as is whole house).

From the sitting room you can only really see the dining area which is mainly windows. I want a new kitchen eventually anyway - just can't afford it at the moment.

I second Houzz for ideas, its amazing and has given me so much inspiration for this and my next house
