"One coat" paint - can you actually get away with one coat?

Because I've heard you can't.

I'm about to paint a sort of cream colour Crown paint onto a plain/sandy coloured wall covering. Obviously it's not a dark colour underneath - but what I'm worried about is do you have to do two coats to get a perfect finish? Could it look patchy with just one coat?

The problem is if you miss any bits you will see the colour underneath. Hence I have always done 2 coats even with really thick paint because I am not a particularly careful painter!!

if you are good at painting you can do one coat but not with Crown because their paint is rubbish!

IME, no.

We managed to get away with one coat using a creamy-white Dulux paint. The colour underneath was very similar, but there were quite a few black scuff marks on the walls and even they got covered up pretty well. Just make sure you don't spread the paint too thin.

I've always called Dulux once 'twice'.
