Cutting Venetian blinds to size?

I've had a few blind companies out and the cheapest quote for 5 bay window size Venetian blinds is £400.

As we're planning to replace the window in a few years, I really don't want to pay a small fortune so any ideas?

Can I cut Venetian blinds to size easily? Each pane is narrow and as far as I can see there are no ready made blinds that size.

The venetian blinds that are that very thin bendy plastic or metal slats can be trimmed with a trimmer you can buy, and the top and bottom peices can be cut to size easily with a hacksaw.
