Building a new house

Just of of interest actually I'm being nosey how much does it cost to build a house from scratch. I know it's a bit 'how long is a piece of string', but thought there might be some mners who have done this. Saw a gorgeous one today when picking dd up from her mates house, detached, in woodland and simply perfect.

Quoted £350,000 this is for a detached oak framed glass fronted eco house.Projected managed by ourselves.

Currently having the roof felted and battened,2 years in!!!

Not sure what we have spent, but could work it out if I needed to.And will do at the end to reclaim the VAT and frighten ourselvesSmile

Why not subscribe to Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine it is full of real life projects with costs breakdowns?

Picture of half of it going up last summer on my profile-proud!

Sounds lovely, I do wish the profile pics could be enlarged by hovering over them. Oh and what is that little creature on the bottom pic?

The last whole house I worked on (four years ago) cost £180,000. Was 1.5 storey, 4 bed, 2 reception, 3 bath, detached garage, good spec fittings. Client sold it at offers over £300,000.

would think that you would need something like £2000/sqm but it depends on the spec.

I expect my residentials to be between £1000-1200 per sqm build plus land acquisition, prelims and oncosts. Any higher and it is where are the gold taps territory.

Thanks, way out of my league but good to know!

Usually quoted per metre squared and easy to find from some of the housebuilding sites, depending on your area. Where I am currently about £1500 per square metre.
