Wardrobe dilemma

We're moving to a new house with a wall of about 350cm against which we can have wardrobes. Would love any recommendations or advice. This will be some of the main storage in the house so it must be versatile. We need some hanging space and some shelves, and have been considering IKEA PAX wardrobes as they can be customized. Altogether, for 350cm width of wardrobe with shelving, interior drawers and hanging space, IKEA PAX would cost us about £650.00 plus about £200.00 to have them put together by someone (we're hopeless but we know a man who can). Haven't a clue if this IKEA stuff is good price or not, would love advice. We don't want fitted in case we end up changing the rooms round.

We've had IKEA PAX for years and I think for the price they are really good quality. We've moved twice with them (taken them apart, put them back together again) and they still remain pretty sturdy. Just recently split ours up and put them in the kids rooms with new doors. They look just fine. As a price comparison, we replaced them with a run of custom built sliding door wardrobes, about 320 cm in length, and that was £2000 (Sharps quoted £4000!).

I have Pax wardrobes and love them. You can fit out the interior to so many different combinations so they are so versatile.

I dream of the day I can own PAX. Life plans are

  1. pay off all unsecured debt
  2. buy PAX Grin

whereabouts are you? If it's North West I know a great place who will deliver and build for £50, their wardrobes were better quality than the Ikea ones for roughly same price as well

I'm also looking into wardrobes. Pax seem very reasonable. John Lewis do similar but much more expensive. We also can't afford sliding doors etc but I'm looking into all of them for inspiration then I'm going to speak to a joiner, and see how much he can do it for. If not it will be a trip to ikea

Pax are great. All wardrobes are so expensive, I feel your pain!

Great! Thanks for being so positive. Only recently managed to get DP to agree to consider IKEA (he led a prosperous bachelor life once, LOL) and this makes me so confident. Thank you. And how good a timewaster is their PAX wardrobe design planner?!
