Bloody builders!

ok this is more of a rant but we have had builders in for what seems like forever now and they have lost all sense of urgency so our house is a building site without builders (on most days).

Today my husband was talking to one of the workers about snagging and then he left for work. As I was trying to leave for work, the worker asked me to sign a form WHICH I SHOULDN'T have signed because I didn't read it (I was rushing out the door), he didn't give me a copy and then this afternoon we get a bill for £2k of "additional" work that I "agreed" to but should have been covered in the snagging process.

Husband is now livid with me (I shouldn't have signed what I didn't read), I feel physically sick to my stomach and I feel set up by the builders.

The whole experience with these builders has caused so much tension between us and them and more importantly between my husband and I.

I cannot wait until they are out of our lives.

Poor you. I sympathise - builders are (generally) shit. I'd take legal advice about the bill you apparently signed off.

I really do empathise, but as your husband was talking to builders about this " snagging", and they got you, not him, to sign it, and he is furious with you, he should vent his rage on the builders. I,ve had fights, being on my own over everything I have had done - windows, plumbing, builders. My late DH loved his DIY and knew about everything, but I knew nothing, and was taken advantage of. Every time it made me ill. Sorry it's causing friction between you and DH. Good luck

Thanks for your comments. It does make you feel ill when you feel taken advantage of, doesn't it? Our childminder said she heard the builder ask me to sign it and even she wanted to intervene to stop me from signing it - I wish she had! Anyway I guess everything is a lesson and I definitely learned from this one!

Don't give up and assume you have to hand over the extra money. Call a meeting with the boss and explain your concerns, look at the original quote and see what was included. It's a lot of money to hand over because of a slip of the pen especially if you have a witness who can say that you were caught on the hop, what you were signing wasn't explained properly etc.
