New build

Anyone recently bought a new build? Particularly Taylor Wimpey? Went to see one over the wkend we like but not sure what is reasonable to ask them to throw into price ie carpets etc?
Is it cheaper to go thorough them for flooring or do it ourselves? Just trying to do our sums!

We are in the process of buying a Taylor Wimpey new build. We got flooring included but nothing else. We are part exchanging though and I think getting a really excellent deal there - they are giving us more than we could sell our flat for plus it means no selling fees etc. We pushed hard for white goods as we have to leave ours behind (one of their part ex conditions) but they wouldn't budge. They also dropped the price by £5K to fall below hike in stamp duty. If you aren't part exchanging I'd say push for considerably more than flooring.

That's interesting we are thinking about part exchanging. Probably will tbh.
I wondered whether they would pay our stamp duty but its just over 2k so it would be better if they bought my flooring!

Slightly off subject but I am currently renting a new build TW and am the first/only person to have luved in it. The experience has been enough for me to never consider buying from them. The houses on the development are, quite frankly, crap. The plumbing has had to be completely replaced in 5 houses that I know of; Ive been flooded twice; no drainage in any of the gardens; external guttering all collapsed; to name but some of the issues. We've had to band together and get a solicitor and MP is on case with us too.

I bought one earlier this year. The flooring is ok, and it is a lot easier if they put it in first, unless you are not planning to move in straight away. If you are thinking of doing it your self, you should at least consider having the kitchen and bathroom(s) done, so that the tiles/vinyl go wall to wall and under any units etc.

We didn't part ex but did use the scheme where they paid our estate agency fees, it was all fine.

We have only had minor issues since we moved in (sticky window handles, one minor plumbing issue and a couple of little things which weren't quite right) but the site manager here is excellent and everything got sorted out very quickly. Not all the houses are finished on our bit of the development, so we don't have loads of near neighbours yet but I haven't heard anyone else moan about major problems.

We are going to speak to them on fri and I'm going to suggest they include flooring and stamp duty into price. I can only ask. Either that or they reduce price so we can buy flooring but it would be easier going through them so we can move straight in. Also going to get a valuation for their part exchange and see what we get.

Is that off the list price? If so I'd suggest asking for considerably more and work down to the above if needed as I don't think you're asking that much. Depends on value of house, what stage they are at and how desperate they are to sell I think

I really don't know how much is too much.
I will ask for white goods too I think.
I don't want to miss out as only 2 plots of the house style we want. Development is only in first quarter but the plot we want will be available nov ish.
