What it's really like to live on/around Exmoor?

At flipping last are in a postion where we can seriously consider making our dream of moving to Exmoor real. Could you please tell me what real life (not holiday life) is like and either reinforce my image or pop my bubble? We think it's for us because we love the country, walking, nature, being quiet, working hard, helping out with community stuff and drinking beer in proper pubs where it doesn't matter if the DH dog farts. Can you recommend areas which might suit?

I have been looking to buy in that area. Unless you are in the rain shadow, it's very wet. I looked at a house and it had 2 inch long lichen on everything and the BBQ was covered in rust, that's how wet it was. It is proper hardcore farming/ hunting country though. Which is why Liz Jones didnt go down too well.
