Are white tiles cold/boring?

Planning new shower room for our extension and thinking about colours.

I like big tiles and am thinking about plain white 30x60 for most of the walls, with a stripe of these behind the shower and behind the sink/loo, with a charcoal slate tiled floor.

DH is worried that there will be one wall of unbroken white, with just the towel rail on it. Could we put a thin horizontal border or will that look messy/busy?

Thank you, people of taste :)

Love those quartz tiles. As Sparkle says, you could bring colour in with the towels (maybe same colour as the Quartz). Also a few pots/accessories in wood would bring in warmth.

If your floor was pale too it would be OTT IMHO but the charcoal will break up the lines.

White tiles in the cheap 150mm format are not great but different sizes are good. Also consider texture. We have 100mm satin tiles. They hide watermarks a treat! We have them, 100mm t&g boarding/bath panel, an oak top, chhrome and glass so it is a limited palette of materials but i am not keen on fussy stuff. So i dont mind the idea of one wall of the same tiles as long as the whole look doesnt come over as commercial toilets! What are you planning elsewhere in the room?

Thanks all.
I think DH's problem is that we've spent 8yrs in rented house with 10cm square white tiles and he's v keen to get away from that!

It'll be a fairly small shower room, with walk in shower across the far end, then this sink set into a shelf running length of room from shower cubicle, with slate floor tiles in shelf and the aqua quartz tiles on the front of the shelf to make white porcelain furniture stand out.

DH would love some of these lights in the shower

White tiles look terrific I think. Smaller ones are better than standard size and you can buy a stippled/wavy type which look even better.

Our bathroom is all white - large matt white tiles and then accented with blue tiles around sink etc. I love it- clean lines etc and had loads of compliments. You defo need a dark floor to go with it though. Colourful towels and accessories are the way to go!

I think what you are proposing sounds perfect, I think it will look smart, stylish but not too fussy.
