Any tips for dampening an echoey room?

I need to dampen a very echoey office, but I can't knock in nails or use drawing pins etc. Any ideas?

carpet; curtains; soft furniture; padded cube screens, people.

Hello Piglet! Remember my very long winded damp thread? Got the damp investigated properly by an independent surveyor who spent two and a half hours looking at everything. Turns out the problem is the height difference in the houses, plus lack of damp course, and render cracks.

Ta for your suggestions. There's a carpet, but no possibility of curtains as there's no pole and I can't drill into the plaster to put one up. Not big enough for screens.

a few hatstands with bulky coats on will make a difference if the room is small. In the middle of a wall is I think better than in a corner. A large hessian-covered pinboard will help too. Is there no hanging rail running high up along the walls?

Nope, the plaster is pristine, no plate shelf or anything, and the ceiling is about 9'.

Room is about 10' square, so yes, it's pretty small. Will try the coat rack idea.

Hang heavy towels or throws in a wide U-shape like a hammock from the ceiling.
