How hard is it to plumb a washing machine in??

Old one has died and I am about to order on from John Lewis. My old one is integrated as will the new one be.

It will cost me £85 for it to be plumbed in and I will have to wait until the 4th October to get it (my birthday!!) or I try and do it myself, save the money (which is very tight at the moment) and get it next Tuesday.

Now the question is am I capable and strong enough to do it myself?

yes you are!!! There is probably only one hose to screw into the cold water outlet and then poke the waste pipe down the waste outlet That's it!!

PS you don't even have to be strong!
If you have trouble moving the washer squirt the floor with washing up liquid so it glides along. really, the whole thing will take you 5 mins

As above. Don't know if there are further issues because it is integrated though.

might have to unscrew the door hinges?

nickiminja's right, it's really easy. Few washing machines have a connection to the hot water tap, it would have a red pipe for this. Usually they just have a blue one. It should already be connected to the washing machine, if not, use a wrench to tighten. Then attach to the water pipe, tighten it up, then put the waste pipe into the outlet on the wall. It's often easier to watch a video on youtube so you can see where things go.

Since you are replacing old for new the plumbing already exists, modern machines only require a cold water feed which is a simple screw on connection between the existing cold water valve and the machine using the hose provided, the waste pipes are generally a simple hose that is inserted into the existing stand pipe. £ 20 pounds maximum to connect but a simple DIY job since instructions are provided.

Make sure you turn to water tap off (learnt the hard way!), it is very easy!

Important.... remember to remove all transit screws and packaging before running the machine , again this will be shown in the instructions

Squirting the floor with polish is a better option, actually :) but yes, you can definitely do it! Get them to take it into the right room for you when they deliver so you have to do minimal moving.

Thank for the advice. I have just ordered a cap to cover the hot water pipe as it is cold feed only and will be getting them to remove the old machine.

Washing machines are very heavy due to having a large lump of concrete in the bottom. It will be easier to move if you have a friend to help. The actual plumbing in is dead easy and the pipes will have shut off valves so you shouldn't need to cap the hot water pipe. Just leave the valve turned off.
