White or brown uPVC windows and door?

Slainte · 16/09/2012 16:39

We've just applied for planning permission to put up a new extension (large lounge) at the back of our bungalow which will have one set of double doors and four windows. The architect has applied for these to be white (same as rest of house) but now I think that they should be that fake wooden upvc.

My reasoning is that it's nicer than the white and over time we could replace the other windows at the back to match.

Which do you think is more aesthetically pleasing?

TIA

I think the fake wooden PVC looks much worse, tbh.

ArcticRoll · 16/09/2012 17:45

Yes think white would be preferable to fake wood.

CuddyMum · 16/09/2012 18:17

I like white too.

SwedishEdith · 16/09/2012 18:27

No, the fake wood ones look horrible

PigletJohn · 16/09/2012 18:32

the fake wood ones, and colours, are generally made of white pvc with a plastic fimn stuck do it. It can be scratched or peel which looks awful.

CalamityKate · 16/09/2012 18:35

Oh god that fake wood brown stuff looks horrible!

Slainte · 16/09/2012 18:57

Oh no, this is exactly what my husband is saying too. Problem is I really want real wood but we don't have the time for the upkeep so thought this would be the next best thing.

I'm happy to bow to your wisdom though. Thanks Smile

What sort of house is it?

Wigeon · 16/09/2012 19:03

Another vote for white!

Fake wooden looks really really fake. It doesn't look the least bit like real wood. There surely is a reason that practically no one has it (or at least, no one round here, apart from one house on the school run, and I look at it and think how horrid it looks twice a day. HTH Grin).

White!

livealoha · 16/09/2012 19:10

White windows, coloured door - not brown and not white with a film over.

They are coloured all the way through cost a bit more but look better than the brown or white.

They look like a wood grain if you don't get too close !

www.Countrywideconservatories.co.uk in Braintree Essex did ours (not sure if they really are country wide?!) and they were fantastic - competitive quotes, reliable service and good product - I don't work for them I promise!

What im saying is they are out there

Good luck Smile

noddy It's a 1950's bungalow with bay windows at front.

My DH is delighted with your responses.

Thanks all.

What about another colour to complement the brick? UPVC comes in many shades now. Some of the greys are nice and black is good in certain situations

Finbert · 17/09/2012 16:24

Ooh yes, a coloured door with the white windows, there seems to be some lovely ones out there. Hope you find something you are both happy with!

BackforGood · 17/09/2012 17:00

White - I think the brown ones look horrible.

Slainte · 17/09/2012 17:16

Brilliant, I hadn't really given much thought to other colours. Going to do some research now. TVM
