Range cooker dilemma

Looking for 90cm stainless steel dual fuel range cooker. Torn between rangemaster or stoves options (£1200-1400) and a discounted Britannia or SMEG (down from £2k to £1500). Sales people pushing better quality of Britannia but there are some negative reviews out there! I want a great hob and ovens for baking and pizzas. Any recommendations or warnings what to stay away from? Thanks!

We have a rangemaster 90 professional - only had it a couple of months but I love it. The ovens heat really evenly, the quality feels solid - not amazing but good - wok burner and grill plate accessory thingies are not gimmicky at all, as I feared they might be. If you're a really keen baker, one thing to bear in mind though is that you can't turn the fan option off for the ovens.

As I recall, SMEG have awful reviews on here, do a quick search to check.

Thanks libelulle. Yes, it was those reviews that put me on my guard! Salesperson said that in response to bad reviews, SMEG have improved their product and it now has a 5yr guarantee. Rangemaster seems to get universal thumbs up but not much about Britannia - and am wondering if better buy to get £2k worth of cooker for £1500 or if it just wasn't worth the £2k price tag in the first place!

my smeg has been pretty terrible, lots of problems from new, all fixed under 5 year warrantee, which has now expired and it's making funny noises again :(

FireGirl27 · 15/09/2012 14:36

Thanks bumpybecky - will rule that off my list!

I'm looking for a range too. Britannia are more sturdily built than Rangemaster, and their customer service is meant to be excellent.

I'm lusting after a Falcon £££ Grin

PandaNot · 15/09/2012 22:10

My stoves is fantastic, not had any problems in three years. And you can turn the fan off for baking.

Aha amazonianwoman! I agree Falcons are pretty cool but nothing in the £1500 range alas - that I've seen anyway.
Thanks for fan tip PandaNot.
