We're in a smallish 1930s semi and we want to get rid of the vile technicolour 1970s carpet in our hallway and restore the woodblock floor underneath. We've had a peek at the corners and it looks to be in reasonably good condition but will need to be sanded and finished with something that will withstand dogs. A man is coming on Sunday to give us a quote for restoring it, and also for doing the same in the knocked-through lounge/dining room, but I have absolutely no idea what he's going to say. Has anyone had this done who could give us a vague ballpark figure or any words of wisdom/things to ask? The hall is about 13 ft by 3, with a wider bit at the bottom of the stairs, and the lounge/diner is about 22ft by 10.
