Can I paint this fireplace with white paint?

This for our kitchen, I like it but I'd like it a whole lot better if it was painted an off white colour to match the rest of the paintwork in there. The white one is still full price hence getting this one, I'd sand it before painting to give a good key

it appears to be made of veneered MDF. Sanding it will tend to rub the veneer off corners and sharp edges.

You can paint anything but as it is probably varnished will have to use a good oil-based primer.

I reckon it will be a good £50 of your time and materials.

Or even look at salavge yards for an original one. We have an Edwardian fireplace that the auction house have just told me is only likely to go for £40 so I'm sure you'd find something.

its just visual - intend to paint the centre of it (i.e the wall) with chalk paint for DD

This is what's on ebay for under £100 if any of them are near you. A handful are white already.

we got an unstained woodent one made to our requirments for £250. I spent ages looking at ebay, salvo etc and at the end of the day, getting something that fitted, didnt need masses of sanding, repair to get it right just was impossible.
