Suggestions for Hertforshire? Character houses

Hello

This is proving to be difficult although the there is very little on the market right now so maybe that's it.

We're looking for 3+ beds and a pretty, village-y house. Character/ period would be lovely. If thats not possible I'd probably rather a new townhouse than a 1930s pebbledash semi.

We've lived in st Albans and that's ideal but I don't think we can afford that there. Happy to be around 10 radius of that. Need to be near a mainline station into London but a location where we can drive to and street park near a station is ok.

To give you an idea, the house ive seen and adored (but missed out on) was a Victorian terrace with a stream running down the back of the garden and a beautiful garden in park street.
Good schools are also needed, and ideally a "nice" local town.

Now for the restriction- budget is max £350k but more likely £300-330k

Why not consider an area such as Boxmore - good schools, excellent train service...

Thanks homesearcher. Boxmoor is actually on the list, so will def keep checking. I like being near the canal :)

Hitchin and Letchworth would be worth a look.

Yeah, Hitchin's the place. Victorian houses a plenty and 25 mins into kings cross.

Nothing much in Letchworth pre-1900.

What's your budget?

I think the problem, in terms of searching the archives, is that the threads aren't entitled "hertfordshire" but rather things like "where to live and commute into London" or "where can I find a nice village-y feel in the south east" etc!

Just thought: how about Harpenden? Although if you are finding St Albans property prices bad, then you'll probably have the same prob in Harpenden...

No children with SN but that's a bit worrying!

We like Harpenden- and happy to consider the cheaper areas such as wheathampstead/ redbourne- in some ways Harpenden is a bit more affordable that ST Albans although I think we'd prefer st Albans because it has a bit of a younger feel.

I'm actually coming to the conclusion it's the market- there have been fab suggestions but still few properties available. It just seems like people aren't really moving at the mo. I guess the get-them-into-school rush is over.
