Satin/eggshell/gloss paint - does anyone notice this in other peoples' houses, do you care?

Aargh, a well-meaning family member has taken it upon himself to finish painting a small room for us which, frankly, we were perfectly fine with leaving unfinished for now, we have bigger fish to fry! (and anyway I was looking at wallpaper samples for the room instead)

He didn't listen to our pleas to use eggshell paint on the woodwork - to match the rest of the house/our tastes - and has used gloss paint instead (brilliant white). I know I sound pathetically ungrateful. TBH we have a gazillion other little DIY jobs he could have done for us, and I would have been over-the-moon. This wasn't something we really cared about and may yet re-do the room totally differently once we have a chance to think about it.

For me, it's going to be one of those annoying things that niggle me. I like things to match and pay attention to details.

Does/will anyone else care though? Would you notice or care? It is a room guests will be using.

I probably would be annoyed but would let it go if it was in a spare room that i wouldn't use regularly. I don't suppose I would notice in someone else's house though.

I wouldn't notice in anyone else's house. I would notice in my own home. And it would eat away at me and slowly drive me insane. I clearly need better things to worry about

Me too, Wendybird. I do actually have plenty of other things to be thinking/worrying about, another reason why this has hit a nerve!

I would not notice it in another person's house. But if you are so attentive to detail, I actually might.

Why not put it at the bottom of your list? : Repaint gloss with eggshell.

No one else will care at all. Honestly.

Just give it a once over - you'll feel better and it doesn't actually take that long to do. (neurotic, me? )

I agree: no-one else will notice.

You, on the other hand, will have sleepless nights about it
