Do you have big patio doors?

You know, bifold ones or French windows as my mother used to call them.

Do you have curtains?

Or something else.

I need to put something up but can't decide what.

We've got a 19 foot full height patio window, it's in 4 sections with just the middle 2 sliding outwards. We went through loads of options, but ended up settling on what I said I'd never have, which is vertical blinds.

We have them in bright orange and they actually look really good. I think they are helped along by the fact the house is a 70's architecturally built place and we've gone with the 70's theme (a little- not a total homage!)

Orange vertical blinds???

Wow! Grin

But yy I'm looking for something kind of retro modern iyswim. Not sure big heavy curtains will be right at all.

We have vertical blinds too.

We have this carpet and the orange matches the one in the carpet. It looks surprisingly good, especially with my bright pink chair!

The good thing about the verticals is that the cost is in the running gear, so when we grow up get fed up with the orange it's only £80 to replace the blinds with something a little more conservative.

In our last house I bought some white muslin material and made some curtains. I put the rail at the top of the wall and some weights in the bottom - they looked fab - blowy, see through but kept the sun out. I had blue velvet curtains for winter

Friends had Ikea roller blinds over their big doors and they looked good too.

Just a couple of ideas

my thread on the same topic more ideas here

Yes but Victorian ones that open, rather than slide. About 10ft tall.

Probably not your cup of tea but we have ikea nets and then really thick, old velvet curtains which trail on the floor. Anything less and it would be freeeeezing.

I envy you people with your skinny blinds Envy

I have both vertical blinds and curtains but only tend to use the curtains in winter.
The blinds are a neutral buff colour and the curtains a moss green. I think it looks good.

Those of you with vertical blinds - I was just worried they would look a bit officey? How have you avoided that?
