Where should we move to??

Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate some advice on this.

My partner and I live in one of the London boroughs at the moment. Our rent is ridiculously high and I doubt we'll be able to afford to buy anything bigger than a one-bed flat for a very long time. I love London but we rarely visit the city (we don't work there) and just stay in our own little corner most of the time, so it doesn't seem worth the expense.

Our lease is up in a year and we've both decided to move. Obviously this is dependent on finding work, but... where should we move to??

We're both Scottish and our families are in Glasgow. We'd like to go back to Scotland eventually, but probably not Glasgow, and probably not for another few years. As such, we could move pretty much anywhere as there's nothing tying us down.

We're hoping to start a family in the next few years so we'd like somewhere with decent schools, a bit of countryside if possible, somewhere we can have a social life and get shopping easily. He likes the south of England, for the weather; I'd like the north of England, because their accents are cool.

The alternative is to move abroad, possibly to Germany. Again, we could go anywhere really.

Thanks :)

We're on the South Coast (Sussex). DP's from Edinburgh and loves the weather here!

Beautiful countryside here. Not sure where to suggest - do you want city / town / village / rural?!

What kind of price do you think you'll want to spend on a house?

Lewes is a lovely town.
Lots of stunning villages in the Sussex countryside.
I love Brighton, it's North-London-by-sea if you want a city and like that sort of thing?

Good questions, aufaniae :) Thanks for answering! Off to look up Lewes on rightmove...

We're both teachers so our budget isn't massive. We will have a tiny deposit, if we do buy, as saving is difficult for us at the moment. I'm hoping we should be able to go for houses up to about £280k. Otherwise we'd be happy to rent for anything under about £1200 pcm. Just now we pay £1400 Shock

DP fancies something by the coast, which is a bit weird in my opinion as we'e never lived near a beach or even, if I think about it, visited a beach together at any point Confused I'd like a smallish town but with decent transport links into a city (neither of us drive at the moment).

Have you thought about some of the villages on the East Lincolnshire coast? Places around Skegness? You get quite a lot for your money there in terms of houses.... Worth a look I'd think. Also truly excellent grammar schools.
