What would be a good window treatment for a very large window?

In our holiday house we have a very large window, I'm not sure how big exactly but about a floor and a half high. We would like to be able to cover it when we are not there, partly to keep the sun out and partly to stop people looking in. Is there a cheap, easy way to do that? It doesn't have to up permanently, and it might not need to cover the top half of the window as the light from the top half will probably only shine onto the opposite wall and not onto furniture.

I might have a picture of the window on my phone if that would help.

TIA

Do you think it would work if I bought blackout material and made panels with velcro across the top and stuck the other part of the velcro onto the frame?
