What colour kitchen walls

I am really struggling with deciding on the colour of paint walls for our kitchen in the 1930s house we have just bought.

First I tried parchment paper and dairy farm from dulux - which were odd, then today tried cornflower white and natural hessian. Currently the kitchen is fluorescent yellow which I hate, the cupboards are real oak and very naice - the worktop is a dark nasty black pattern (but liveable with) and the tiles will be a white or speckled in the colour we choose for the walls.

I think it should be blue. DH thinks cream. The floor is pine parquet blocks, our table is pine (but with a tablecloth) and there is a pine dresser which I intend to paint a light cream and distress.

ARGH!

Cream sounds a bit dull. How about putty or grey or sage green?
