Wardrobe space

Just a quick question.

I have a small bedroom 10*10 ft which feels over run with wardrobes. However I don't consider us to have too many clothes, if I list our wardrobes can you all tell me how many wardrobes you have in your bedroom/ house. I'm trying to work out if we really do have too many or old be matter with storage.

Our room.... Dh - 1 single wardrobe with two hanging rails, me - 2 double wardrobes, both with top shelf. We both have half of those awful over bed cupboards each and we both have small set three draws.
Ds room..... 1 double wardrobe, 1 set draws, 1 fitted double wardrobe which dh uses.
Dd room.....1 double wardrobe, 1 set draws, 1 cupboard housing central heating boiler.
Spare room..... 1 fitted tall single wardrobe split into shelves, housing books, DVDs, CDs and 1 set draws full of photo albums. I've had a assive ort out of this today and managed to clear a shelf.
We don't have an airing cupboard so all sheets etc are stored in my wardrobe or underbed storage.

Our room - built in 4 door WR and 2 sets of 8 drawers

Guest room - 2 door fitted wardrobe

DD's room - freestanding double WR and 6 drawers

DSD's room - built in 4 door WR and 8 drawers.

DP and I use all of the wardrobes apart from the one in DD's room (we use the wardrobes in DSD's room too - she only keeps a small amount of clothes here).

We need more self control storage!

No idea what is a normal amount. I think we have a lot of storage, but it's never enough.

I think the trick is to be properly organised, keeping on top of passing on clothes, and rotating your wardrobe. Keep the winter clothes in the loft in vac pacs in the summer and vice versa.

Personally I'm too scared of the loft spiders. Although I have just bought the boards to sort out the loft and use it.....I'm just too scared to get up there and do it.

I also have a huge linen cupnoard full of Lord only knows what. I use the front 10% of it for towels and bedding.

In our bedroom, 2 doubles, 2 singles
Boys bedrooms, 3 singles in one, 2 singles in the other
Office - one double plus one wall of bookcases.

No chest of drawers, we have Ikea PAX wardrobes and have their plastic drawers inside the wardrobes instead, that way I can over fill them and pull them out completely to get to the back if needed.

The trick is, when you buy something new chuck something out I'm looking at you DH and also store winter clothes and summer clothes when the seasons change.

I have recently had a huge clear out following bringing it all with us in a house move 2 years ago. It is cathartic.

One double width rail for me
One single width set of shelves for dh (we share an Ikea Aspelund wardrobe).

We also share a two drawer chest.

I would like another wardrobe but IKEA the bastards have stopped stocking the Aspelund in wood, just have it in white.

Dd has a two drawer chest of drawers and a couple of little baskets for vests and sleepsuits.

Oh and in my clear out I was shocked at how much bedding I had, and clearly didn't need and how many knickers, pyjama bottoms, socks, old t shirts, etc I had. Dh had t shirts that were 14 years old.

Count it all and wonder why you think you need 43 pairs of knickers for a 7 day week, unless you don't do laundry for 3 weeks I think you have to be brutal. I got rid of 3 sets of cream bedding, our bedding is white now and has been for years.

We have a double sliding door wardrobe built into the alcove in our bedroom which DH and I share (2 hanging rails, and shelving which he uses), I have a chest of drawers, DD2 is in with us and her things are on a shelf unit in the corner of our room
The other 3 DC share a room and have Ikea expedit units for their clothes, 2 of the 4square units and 1 of the 8square ones between them. You need to be a lot more organised than I am for the house to look reasonable with so little storage, and it generally doesn't.
When we have the extension built and get a 'girls' ' room and a 'boys' ' room and a spare room I am aiming for built in wardrobes in each room.

The loft is full of crap stuff we put out of the way when we first moved in, we need to go through it, I can see the local charity shop doing very nicely! Although an inevitable part of having DS and DD1's clothes waiting for DS and DD2 to grow into is the space they take up. Feel awful looking forward to DD2 growing out of her pram/activity centre/amby hammock as then we can ebay all the bulky baby things

We have a built-in unit all along one wall of our bedroom. DH and I have a double-width wardrobe each. We share a single-width woardrobe for shirts (he has the upper rail, me the lower). The reminaining module is a dressing-table with cupboard above, which is where we stuff things out of sight of DCs etc., and 4 drawers ( 2 each). We each have a 3-drawer bedside cabinet and we share a 6-drawer chest.

I am more concerned you have the central heating boiler in your DD's room. Can you not swap her bedroom with the spare room?

A double wardrobe and a chest of drawers for me and DH, a double wardrobe and a chest of drawers for the 2 DD's to share. And an airing cupboard for towels and linen. I own very few clothes but they are all good quality and only get replaced when they are worn out

Thanks all, so really I'm about average. I rotate all the summer / winter clothes for myself and dc and store what isn't being used normally in under bed storage or in draws . Maybe I should just put it in the attic instead . I think my problem I'd a lack of downstairs storage which means I hide everything upstairs instead. For example we don't have anywhere to hang coats, so they get stored in the wardrobes upstairs and no where for shoes so again they're upstairs too. Plus sh is a massive hoarder and even though I frequently sort all our stuff out he won't let me do his which means he keeps everything but wears just a few things.

In regards to the boiler its not ideal for us either to have it in dds room, but the spare room is 7 ft by 5ft so a tiny box room whereas her room now is the larger if the small rooms. Were thinking of getting a new boiler shortly and when we do I'm going to put the new one in the attic . Mainly to free up a cupboard bit also as its safer .
