Hi, we are trying to buy a house in a location that fits our family's needs. One parent works in London, one is Southend Essex, 1 kid in uni (Bristol); 2 in boarding 6th Form (Chatam,Kent) and last 1 in Yr 7 living at home......We live in North London and NEED to move to somewhere within easy commute for ALL. We came upon a nice property in Wilmington near Dartford because the area seem to sit well geographically. Dont know much about Dartford except for driving through tunnel and bridge regularly to drop my boarders. Searched the area on line and Dartford came across as crime ridden and not very nice but the house (£800k) in Wilm seems nice. Cant get my head round how an area with houses in that price bracket can be in a horrible area. Can anyone help? Does anyone know where we can get the best area/houses for £750k within easy commute to London Essex and Chatam??

Hey,

We moved back to the South East from Bristol; my family live just up the road from Dartford and that was the area we looked at first as links are really good (and most trains end up in Dartford from London Bridge / Cannon St / Charing Cross.

Dartford itself isn't great, however if you move a small distance out to Wilmington / Meopham / Vigo the houses and the atmosphere change dramatically. Wilmington Grammar school is really well rated which may explain why the houses are so expensive but tbh we have already earmarked a move over to Vigo / Meopham for our next house.

Next to Dartford is the London Borough of Bexley (where we live) and that has a lot of houses that are lovely and could be worth a look? Bexley Village is on the A2 and takes no time at all to get to the Bridge; it's still a "proper" village and the transport links are really good. Bexley's also come 3rd out of all London Borough's for places to live with small children, and comes top of where to live when retired so it has got some things going for it - except no-one's ever heard of it!

Good luck!

This is the kind of thing you can get in Bexley (and I am v jealous!)

Thanks for the response and property link mamf74. I've never even heard of vigo / meopham and sort of ruled out Bexley because its a bit too towney but will check out Bexley village. That's our BH plans sorted for tomorrow, thanks to you.

My brother lives in Bexley village and loves it. Some really nice villiages in and around (sorry can't name any!) and you have lots of farm shops etc close by.

Also, Darenth Park, right near the hospital - that's quite nice. Swanley Village; would also mention Bexley Village and Meopham.
