Where to buy stone for garden

We're having a 3msq patio built in garden and our builder has asked us to order it in. I have no idea where to start!

Looked around B&Q Homebase etc but as anyone used an online supplier who they can recommend? Thought it might be cheaper. Undecided between light coloured paving stones or maybe a circular stone set Hmm

Have you tried a local builder's merchant - e.g. Buildbase? Our local one has a massive yard of different stone slabs plus a little demo area of them laid down. About 20 times the choice of B&Q. They will sell you single sized slabs, a circle or a "random" package to make an oblong patio, and deliver.

Surely your builder would know a wholesaler he could get it from? Ask him about it and if it makes a sufficient saving you could offer him a few quid extra for his trouble?

I buy a lot of garden stuff from evil bay, it can be cheaper

3m sq is a tiny tiny area. Do you mean 3m x 3m? Cos that is 9 m sq..... Defo one to check if you are doing the ordering!

Try marshalls? Info online. Order through travis perkins.

Thanks for all the tips, will check them all out. Oops, I did mean 9sqm Blush good spot tricot39!

Our builder has just left the company who did our kitchen and started up his own co. so does haven't a main supplier yet, he mostly buys from e-bay so he just said for us to choose whatever we like. I know it would be helpful for him to get it but I think he's flat out atm so doesn't have time to research the various options with us etc as he's got a few jobs on the go.

Builders usually have big discounts with builders yards so I am surprised he has not offered to buy the stuff for you. Usually the scam is that the builder charges you the full cost but does not tell you about the discount he gets.

If you ask a lot of builders and plumbers merchants will give you a discount when ordering, but you can't go in there and act like Margo from The Good Life.

I would open the Yellow Pages, go to Builders Merchants and then drive around a few and get some quotes. You will need to ask them for the full price including VAT and delivery as some will perhaps try to pull a non VAT price on you and then add it on later.
