I'm having problems finding much in the way of choice for 3m width. Was hoping to avoid getting curtains made as so much more £.

Any ideas?

Hi There

Have you tried Paul Simon.... I was going to spend over £1000+ on having eyelet curtains made for our windows... but I found that they do extra wide curtain widths.. OK so not the heading type I wanted but I managed to save over £700.00 pounds by buying a set from them today ...

The wide styles from memory are Jazz, Turin, Ambassor, Cubik and one other - if you have a store locally you can go in and look and see if you like the feel/look of the fabrics...

Hope this helps.

I chose a natural Turin - very plain - very wide - very standard and very cheap

Thanks cantspelSmile I have looked there already but none of them are quite the thing I want Although quite what I do want I'm not sure until I see it Confused

Thanks! Will have a look. I can't believe that curtains can be so difficult to pin down or so £Shock

Can't you get some standard-width ones and then get them sewn together? Or sew them yourself, it's not that hard.

I've just discovered that we're going to have the same problem in our new house, so will be looking at these with interest. But where did you get your curtain pole from?

WerthersUnOriginal · 22/08/2012 14:46

Well you know Monncup I have been mulling that over funnily enough.

I do have a sewing machine although I'm only able to do basic stuff (just the occasional bit of fancy dress for school).

I'm worried they wouldn't hang right especially if they had a lining..Dh would be highly unamused if I cocked it up.

If you dont mind ordering from china and paying a bit of import duty then have a look at
lightinthebox.

www.lightinthebox.com/c/curtains_5092

over a 1000 curtains some in extra wide. I have ordered curtains from them as i have 3 windows in our lounge, one being a large bay, a smaller front window and then large patio doors all in non standard sizes.

WerthersUnOriginal · 22/08/2012 14:53

Curtain poles are these from Argos.

We bought them in a hurry cos we had nothing at all at the window (just moved). Currently I have an old pair of curtains hanging up that are 6" too short Hmm just to tide us over.

I wanted some eyelet curtains for preference.

I have a 3m pole across my bay and ended up with curtains from Dunelm - they do some in wider widths. The downside is you can't search by width on the website so you find ones you like then find they don't do them in the wider size :(

I have also had extra wide ones from M&S before now, but only in the sale, as they were mega-expensive (for me!)

vonnyh · 22/08/2012 17:20

I have two bay windows that have 3m poles. I've bought couratins from Dunhelm Mill and 247curtains.co.uk. Both are excellent quality, and good value. I found there to be a lot more choice on 247curtains.

vonnyh · 22/08/2012 17:23

Should add that both sets of curtains were made to measure, but a lot cheaper than i had been quoted elsewhere.

crazyaccountant · 23/08/2012 08:08

I also have used Dunelm Mill for a 3 m pole in previous house. In this house which has bays which are more than 3 m I got curtains made using next made to order service which was excellent and a quarter of the price of John Lewis etc. I got 3m width 90inch drop fully lined for £300 and at the moment some fabrics are 50% off so around £150 for the same size which I am now considering for another room in my house
made2measure.next.co.uk/
Or have you seen that the next normal ready made range now has some curtains in an extra wide width, very reasonable prices just picked this design as example but many to choose from depending on colours etc you are wanting

Crazy I had thought that made to measure would be off the clock but the Next ones are def worth a look esp with the sale. I like the fact you can have cushions too. Thanks for that! Feeling hopeful Smile

Honestly I was very impressed, the quality and finish is excellent, ordering to delivery only took just over a week, I also got a few cushions made and they are lovely and very well made. A friend recently had some laura Ashley curtains made that were over £800 and I honestly think the next ones are neater.
I am currently busy choosing fabric for a another pair for one of my lounges as the free fabric swatches have just arrived. That is also worth doing as they send decent sized samples of the fabric and can give you a feel for the actual colours and finish of the fabrics. Hope you find something suitable!
