Advice about Ikea Pax wardrobes

I'm looking to sort out a Pax system in my bedroom and need some advice deciding what to have. I have 2 alcoves which are approx 175 cm wide with a chimney breast in-between. I can fit in 2 x 75cm units with sliding doors or a 100 + 50 cm unit with hinged doors. So I need to decide between sliding and hinged doors. I think I prefer the hinged doors but the interior drawers seem to catch on them and also think I may prefer to have a 50 cm unit (not compatible with sliding doors).

Another alternative is to opt for 2 x 100 cm units and have a piece f the back cut out so it fits around the chimney breast but this limits the usefulness of the interior as I wouldn't be able to put drawers in the unit with the cut-outs.

Anyone had a similar dilemma. If so, what did you do?

Are you set on Pax?
Do you want wardrobes or could you put sliding doors across the front of the alcoves to create built in wardrobes? My parents put their sliding doors across the width of the room and have shallow shelving on the chimney breast.

Just another idea for you to discard if you wish

Yes, I've thought of getting a joiner in to custom-make some doors but (a) it will be more expensive and (b) I like the PAX interiors and their flexibility.

We have them in bedrooms - my son has the 100cm wide - the internal drawers work fine (now been going 7 years), although you obviously have to open both doors to pull them out. I think for fitting adult clothes folded 100cm wide is good - you could prob get 3 piles IFSWIM rather than just 1 pile of Tshirts in a 50cm drawer by the time you've taken into account the runners. 50cm width would then be good for tall hanging alongside that unit.

I think they have an online planner.

We have two lots of 100cm and one 50cm wardrobe. We have 3 drawers in the bottom of each of the 50cm and one of the 100cm wardrobes with the other 100cm wardrobe having only a top shelf in it so that I could hang long dresses so they wouldn't get creased. The drawers are fab, you can get so much in them. Yes, you have to have both doors open but that's not really a problem. I also like that we have mirrored doors that you can angle so you can see what you look like from the back or side. Very useful.

Hi - we have PAX. 1m width - and yes, the hinged doors need opening just over 90o to open the internal drawers so need a bit of clearance either side

Ok, so there seems to be normal advantage to either. Will have to go and have another look at them.

Yes they do some which are less deep, you could put them.across chimney & deeper ones in alcove. My 2yo son has just got a 100cm with hinged doors but it is 2x 50cm frames. One side has a shelf at the top then a hanging rail, then shelf then hanging rail. It allows the length of dungarees etc & also an adult shirt/trousers for when he is older. The other side has 5 wire basket draws at the bottom & 4 shelves. I can't believe the capacity its amazing, we got the 236cm height. We have ordered the same set up for dd, hers is going in an alcove too. You can move the insides around so when she grows we can move things about to accommodate long items. Next year we are having some building work done & then me & dh will get a 2m sliding door with 2x 100cm frames. One door oak the other mirror. They are discontinuing the wood/mirror doors so we already have that.
