Extractor hoods - same width as hob?

I think I've settled on a 90cm induction hob from Neff and am now looking at extractor hoods. We're going to go for a chimney mounted one. My question is, do I need one the same width as the hob or does it not really matter? The kitchen is at the end of a large family room which will (eventually) have an informal dining and seating area so it needs to be effective in removing smells but not too noisy.

Also, I'm planning on having the ovens against a different wall than the hob but I assume it doesn't matter that the extractor hood isn't over the oven area?

Thanks. Am never planning a new kitchen again!

The same width looks better unless the whole combo is in isolation, when you could have a wider hood

Thanks, I thought it would look better but as the hob is 90cm wide, it is going to be quite big so wondered if I could get away with a smaller one. I might now think about having a 'statement' hood, rather than an unobtrusive one

same size or larger or.....
if you have a 100cm range then a 900 extractor still looks good.
A 600 hood over a 900 hob wont be as effective and looks not very good either.

Smaller looks silly, IMHO
